Visiting a Classic Car Museum

Do you love classic cars?  Do you always turn you hear when you see a beautifully restored and maintained vehicle on the road?  The Okanagan is home to many car shows and show and shine exhibitions throughout the summer, which are great opportunities for collectors to show off their vehicles and for the rest of us to check them out.  But what if you miss them or do not have enough time to take them in with everything else going on in the summer?  Fortunately, Summerland is home to a car museum with a vast collection of vehicles for you to check out.  Make the short drive to Nixdorf Classic Cars and take in their rotating display of classic and muscle cars.

Founded by Garnet Nixdorf and his son Tim, Nixdorf Classic Cars is a 70,000 square foot facility displaying over 70 vehicles.  At the request of friends, family and car enthusiasts from all over, Garnet and Tim decided to build a purpose-built museum to showcase their expanding collection of vintage cars.  Joined by Garnet’s cousin Jim Kyluik, the showroom has expanded to include a snack bar and displays of other car-related artifacts.

Each car displayed at Nixdorf includes information on the vehicles history, condition, and restoration, including colorful and often humorous comments from the collectors.  Whether you are nostalgic to see classic cars from years gone by, or interested in checking out a great collection of muscle cars, there is something for everyone at this unique museum.  It is a great way to spend a fall day.

The collection includes over 100 classic cars, with production years ranging from 1936 to 1970.  There are convertibles, hardtops and a wide variety of makes and models.  The vehicles on display are regularly rotated so you can different cars from the collection on different visits, keeping it a vibrant tourist attraction.

Nixdorf Classic Cars are open every day until the middle of October, and by appointment from October 15th until the end of April.  Located just a block east of Highway 97, it is an easy and enjoyable trip.

If you want to do more than just admire the extensive car collection, the museum can arrange a wine tour in a fully restored and chauffeured classic convertible.  What a great way to see the valley, take in some wineries and experience a part of automotive history first hand!  The staff at Nixdorf can help you select one of their favorite tour routes or design a custom experience just for you.

In addition to wine tours, you can also ride in one of their mint condition cars for a special event.  Have a special birthday, anniversary, graduation or wedding in the future?  Why not arrive in style in a piece of automotive history?
